Update on publishing an Audiolog

Audiolog is my “audio link blog”. It’s a podcast that I put together from a handful of audio clips each week. The clips are from podcasts, audiobooks and videos that I find interesting. I have just made it to my 30th episode and I continue to enjoy it.

The inspiration for this is Russell Davies’ excellent 4764, which is another short podcast of clips (“SPOC”?). Link-blogs are good. Short podcasts are good. Combining the two is great and more people should do it. I would listen.

Making a podcast of interesting audio clips creates a gentle pressure to listen more widely and more actively. I find the process of selecting, editing and annotating the clips enjoyable and meditative. It also has the benefit of reminding me why I found a particular clip interesting. There is a built-in spaced-repetition learning effect.

I spent some time this week improving the tools I use to make this podcast. I updated my episode creator to embed the MP3 files with proper chapters including images and links. These show up nicely in podcast apps that support them. I also gave the website more of a visual identity and a bit of polish. It’s turning out quite nicely.
